Dancing double basses and singing saxophones. Lah-Lah is a brand new performance where instruments come to life in the world of a little girl who can’t sit still! A musical spell will be cast over children aged 2-6 by some of Sydney’s most vibrant and entertaining musicians.



Something very magical happens to little Lah-Lah one night when reading her book - all the characters in her story come to life as instruments! Meeting her friends is lots of fun and Lah-Lah learns all about their funny sounds while she sings and dances.

This show is in a special intimate Proms format, children and adults up close and personal with the 5 piece band. Strictly limited seating available. Book early, tickets selling fast.

Dan Zanes and friends : all ages - Jan 11-12
Join Dan Zanes, former lead singer of rock group The Del Fuegos, his Brooklyn-based band and eclectric music guests as they perform irresistible grooves inspired by all kinds of music from folk roots to early rock ‘n’ roll. Having incited a pint-sized Beatles-like mania throughout the USA, now Dan Zanes brings his rousing family gig to Sydney.

The tragical life of cheeseboy: 8 year and over - Jan 11- 12 + Jan 13-15
Inside a magical travelling theatre tent, discover a storyteller who shares an enchanting and timeless tale.

The Promise: 6 year and over - January 28-31
The Promise is a spectacular fusion of circus and puppetry – dive into a young boy’s imagination while he travels to the far-flung edges of the world with his toy elephant and favourite book. Sparked by a tragedy, he leaves behind the dusty Australian outback, finding new friends and adventure along the way.

Children to go WILD with orchestra and animals in the holidays

Playing at Sydney’s famous Taronga Zoo, much-loved Babies Proms maestro Big G, aka conductor George Ellis, promises to tame children and take them on a journey of rhythm and sound as he uncovers the magic behind orchestral music.

Children will join Big G and his two favourite friends Bertie Bott and Sugarplum on a musical animal hunt, as they try to choose the cuddliest, creepiest and scariest animals in the zoo through the inspiration of classical and pop music.

World famous classics such as Saint-Saens Carnival of the Animals, Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf and even Elton John’s Crocodile Rock will have children dancing in their seats, while educating them on orchestral instruments and the sounds they produce. Children will also be introduced to new original songs, such as ‘It’s Unreal To Be A Seal’ and ‘Platypus (It’s Obvious)’.
After the show, children will be able to mingle with the orchestra and visit the animals of Taronga Zoo at a special discounted price.

George Ellis has led the country’s top orchestras as well as composing and presenting the hugely popular Babies Proms at Sydney Opera House for the past six years.

Acclaimed comedy and drama writer and children’s author Jimmy Thomson teams with Big G to create the engaging stories, characters and songs.

Animal Tracks @ the Zoo is the first concert for Big G Conducts 2008 and will be staged at the ANZ Conservation Theatre, Taronga Zoo, with a donation going to The Taronga Foundation.

Kids at the House 2008

Kids at the house 2008 tickets go on sale Wednesday 5 Dec. The program features regulars such as Little Big Shots, Baby Proms and an exciting line up that will keep your family busy for the whole year.

We are looking forward to the Danish theatre company Gruppe 38 in May with A Sonatina - a reworking of Little Red Riding Hood. Gruppe 38 presented the little Match girl earlier this year and it was wonderful.
Set as a story within a story, a band of travelling players tells the tale of Little Red Riding Hood from the back of its pick-up truck. But this take is rather different: the main characters are a newly laid egg, a potato with a cold and a nasty potato masher. Even better, the star performer is a live chicken and nothing can happen until she produces the egg.

A Babies Proms highlight is The Drum in April.
A young Indian boy dreams of owning a drum. His mother, who can’t afford to buy him one, gives him a piece of wood instead. What follows is an inspiring journey in which the young boy learns he can fulfil his own desires by being kind and helpful to others.
Based on a traditional Indian folktale, The Drum is a charming musical adventure with Indian dance, percussion and a sitar.
