Sydney Design 07

The 16 day Sydney Design 07 Festival is on at the Powerhouse Museum. The festival consists of exhibitions, film screenings, markets + more. The 11th international design festival runs from the 4 till the 18 August.

A special childrens event as part of the festival is Zoes House. Zoes House is an installation encouraging cooperative and creative play for 3-6 year olds. An unfinished house awaits cladding, surrounded by tools for budding builders – a crane, lifts, pulleys, conveyer belt, rubble chute, rail network, wagons, wheel barrows, even hard hats and jackets.
Zoe’s House was designed by La Cite des sciences et de l’industrie, Paris La Villette.

Also while you are there check out Berlin-based Japanese ‘performance jeweller’ Yuka Oyama set up her renowned Schmuck Quickies Salon (literally translated to ‘quick jewellery’). Yuka’s unconventional and highly interactive approach to jewellery-making has taken her to museums, art spaces and festivals around the world in Germany, Italy, Japan and the UK. Visit Yuka to have your own personalised jewellery crafted on the spot from recycled materials.
